Toys 4 Tots Charity Tournament

This weekend will be the last hoorah for The Dirty Birds softball team as we will be hanging up the cleats for the calendar year 2012. This tournament is one of the many reasons why I like the softball community in our region as I'm sure it's the same most anywhere. We are going to get together in the cold weather and play some ball in the name of donating some toys  and money to people who really need it at this time of year. That's a very selfless act and I'm sure Dom and the others who put on this tourney appreciate it greatly.  

Charlie Davis Coed Classic

The Dirty Birds brought back the coed team for a cancer tournament this past weekend and ended up doing pretty well considering that we haven't played together for three years. Going into Sunday we were 2 - 1 and had a double elimination Sunday to play through so after losing our first game of the day in the second game we played it was looking like Sunday was going to be short. That not being the "Dirty Bird" way we rallied to play seven games in a row and took third place in the tournament. It was a great softball weekend all around considering we were all there to support a fellow member of the softball community in his struggle with cancer. Much Needed Updates

I'm not sure even how to do this anymore, where am I? OK OK I'll get to the softball news! The McKay's Dirty Birds have been a bit busy lately so it would take another ten posts to catch up on all the details. I'll keep it short and sweet and just hit the highlights. The McKay's Dirty Birds finished the Richland Hanford Softball Association playoffs with a 2nd place plaque. We also just finished up the Northwest Championships with a 3rd place finish which was a huge deal for our team. In the on deck circle (next to bat, baseball/softball lingo) is the Charlie Davis Co-ed Classic which is clearly a co-ed tournament so we will be bringing on the inaugural members of the first team I put together and will be participating in that on the weekend of October 6th - 7th at the Horn Rapids Athletic Complex in Richland, WA. In the hole (batter following the On Deck batter) will be the Lonnie Cook Memorial Tournament that will also be held at the fields at the Horn Rapids facility.

Total Energy Management Bash for Cancer

TEM Bash for Cancer is this weekend August 3-5 at the Horn Rapids Athletic Complex in Richland, WA. This fun filled weekend's main purpose is to raise $35,000 that will be donated to a local family to help their battle with cancer a bit easier. Some of the festivities will entail live music / DJ, raffle, silent auction, beer garden, food, and of course a softball tournament and even if softball isn't your thing there will be plenty of other reasons to come out and support the cause. Please come out and help Total Energy Management raise money for a local family. Oh yeah and cheer on your Dirty Birds! Go Birds!

2012 Richland Sagebrush Division Playoffs

Tuesday July 31st the McKay's Dirty Birds will be capping off their regular season success with the Sagebrush Division playoffs. The 3rd place game will be taking place at 6pm with the #2 seed Uptown Bar & Grill facing off against #3 seed AirVan and the winner of that gets a shot at the #1 seed McKay's Dirty Birds in the Championship game which will take place at 7:15pm at the Horn Rapids Athletic Complex in Richland, WA.

Final Weeks Results of the Regular Season

The McKay's Dirty Birds softball team were dialed in for their final two games of the regular season. They started off against Swamp Donkey's and beat them 15 - 9 and so we again played AirVan, as it seems we always do, in an important plus final game of the season. This game was not like the usual games we play against AirVan that traditionally go to the bottom of the 7th inning. Defensively these games are a strong hold and this one was no different but we excelled to pull this one off in a 9 - 3 victory. That leaves the McKay's Dirty Birds team with a final regular season record of 15 - 5 and looking to make a huge dent in the playoffs.

A new Dirty Bird!

BJ Woodruff and Heather Mahoney are proud parents of their most recent boy and new Dirty Bird London Joey Woodruff who was born yesterday July 16th at 8:13 in the morning weighing a healthy 8 lbs 12 oz. Congratulations!

Belated Congratulations and Happy Birthdays

I missed a few key anniversaries and birthdays the past few days so I'm making it up now. First off the anniversaries. Brian Seely and his wife Hannah celebrated their first anniversary on Monday July 16th. Seely plays 1B / OF for the McKay's Dirty Birds softball team. Zack and Meghan Chalk also celebrated their first anniversary on Monday July 16th. Zack plays 1B for the McKay's Dirty Birds. On Sunday July 15th was Marcus Dixon's 22nd Birthday. Marcus plays OF for The Dirty Birds softball team. Happy Anniversaries and Happy Birthday!

Last Weeks Results - July, 10th and 12th

Tuesday July 10th for the first time this year the Mckay's Dirty Birds lost back to back games against Uptown Bar & Grill 2 - 12 then Ballz - Out 6 - 15. It was a reality check for the team but we are looking to rebound this week. On Thursday July 12th The Dirty Birds softball team rebounded well and won their first game by a score of 21 - 1 and then had a cliff hanger with a 13 - 14 loss.

Results For This Past Weekends Tournament

The McKay's Dirty Birds participated in a tournament this past weekend that Kip Revis put on at the Horn Rapids Athletic Complex in Richland, WA. The tourney was an open tournament that combined classes of REC, E and D teams and put them all head to head in one smorgasbord of glorious softball that was a brazenly hot weekend in the Tri-Cities. The temperatures reached well into the 100 range but there was softball to be played so we did. The McKay's Dirty Birds had a rough day Saturday going 1 - 2 so that forced us to go through the losers bracket Sunday, which we did, and ended up reaching the Championship game against an E team called the Mashers. The name wasn't a joke or play on words as they disposed of us 10 - 2 and took the tournament. Finishing second wasn't a bad deal considering the mix of teams that were out playing and we will wear that with pride. Aaron Massey - P, Jim Mehrer - C and Zack Chalk - 1B were voted our teams MVP's as they did a terrific job as usual. I would also like to thank a couple players that came out to fill in a couple of roster spots and give everyone a breather in this weekends scorching weather. Thank you Gibby Franco, Reilly Hewitt and Brad Andreas.

Week Six Results

Sorry about the delayed update but here are last weeks results for both the McKay's Dirty Birds and The Dirty Birds teams.Tuesday June 12th the McKay's Dirty Birds started off against the ever pesky AirVan team that we always seem to be going down to the wire with and again they bested us in the final inning 11-10. Moving on to the Swamp Donkey's we had a difficult time as well our bats seemed to slow down and we weren't producing when we normally do with ease. We still produced a win 10-6 and stayed at 1-1 for the day and improved our season record to 10-2. The Dirty Birds Thursday games started at 7:15 with a disappointing loss 19-29 and as we moved onto the night game under the lights we seemed to take the loss and want to get one back. Unfortunately the game was cut short as the field lights turned off in the top of the 6th inning with The Dirty Birds at bat tied 14-14. The game will be continued at a later time.

McKay's Dirty Birds Week Five Results

This week started off a bit differently for the McKay's Dirty Birds team instead of beginning the week on a Tuesday we had a make up game scheduled against AirVan for Monday June 4th. The weather was terrible, it was raining all day and we were hoping for a break in the downpour. Game time came around and breaks weren't given in the weather or play on the field so we played a soggy one and came up short as we lost our first one of the season in league play 7-9. Luckily we had another two games the next day to dry out our water logged ego's. So Tuesday June 5th came around with the weather supposed to be much of the same the weather man wasn't correct two days in a row, Thank you. We started off Tuesday with a game against Ballz-Out which we came out ready to make up time for the previous days downfall. The guys dispatched Ballz-Out 18-1 in a 5 inning game. Uptown Bar & Grill is the next opponent and the only thing holding us back from clinching the first half championship. Our tune up game earlier had us warmed up and we were ready to play because we put up 10 runs in the first inning with a text book singles parade as 11 out of our first 14 batters hit singles. This game also ended in 5 innings as we went on to a 9-1 record by beating Uptown 16-5.

Week Four Results

On Tuesday, May 29th the McKay's Dirty Birds softball team played the Swamp Donkey's and breezed to a win 17-5 then came the game we've been looking forward to this year. Game 2 of the double header we were looking at Uptown Bar & Grill who won the league last year and gave us troubles. This game was going to be tough and our league commissioner came out to watch. It was close the entire way and we took it into extra innings. Uptown would go up then we would come right back. The final score after 9 innings, we normally play 7, was 20-19 McKay's Dirty Birds! That kept our record at 7-0 and still undefeated! The Dirty Birds team played their two games on Thursday, May 31st also at the Horn Rapids Softball Complex. The first one was a nail biter, we were on the verge of being ten runned by Towne Crier but battled back with a fury of clutch hits and rallies. Unfortunately we came up just short and lost the game in a close one 15-16. On to the next one! Since our bats got going a bit late in the first game then were ready to go in the second one, we jumped on top of WRPSpeed but an unfortunate injury for the other team caused us to take a half hour break for medical attention. After we continued the game we kept on going but the other team was clearly deflated. The Dirty Birds took that game 17-6.

McKays Dirty Birds Week Three results

Our first game on Tuesday May, 22nd was against AirVan/T-Room ended up being postponed and we will make it up in the coming weeks so those results will be posted at a later time. Our second game this week was against Ballz-Out and the game started off with a bang our first four batters in order went for the cycle! Kyle Knight - 3B had a single, BJ Woodruff - LF had a double, Keith Knight - LC had a triple and Scott Stanhope - SS topped it off with a homerun. The rest of the game we cruised to an easy win ten running another team 15-1. That takes the McKays Dirty Birds record to a still undefeated 5-0.

Pounder Invite Results

Saturday May, 19th was a good day for the McKays Dirty Birds team we had games at 10 and 12:30 which we won both of them 15-13 in a close one and Aaron Massey our pitcher throwing a complete game shutout in the second game 9-0. Aaron compliments his defense being good was the reason. Sunday, May 20th was a different story, 11:30 we won again putting us in the semi-finals for the fourth straight tournament this year. This time we met a determined team, Triple B, that we beat in the championship game last tournament, the Espo's Invite, they were more motivated then we were on this day and took it to us as they moved on to the championship game therefor ending our weekend and the chances of receiving three tournament trophies in a row. We would like to thank all the fans that came out and watched us play along with the pickup players that filled in for us this weekend (Gibby and Joe P) we appreciate it.

Pounder Invite

This weekend May, 19th and 20th McKays Dirty Birds are entered in the Pounder Invite that will be played at the Horn Rapids Softball Complex in Richland, WA our first game is at 10am. Fun, Sun, Softball and Beers so please come out and watch us play we enjoy the support. See you out there!

Second Weeks Results

The McKays Dirty Birds started off this week on Wednesday May, 16th playing the Free Agents in back to back games. We won the first game 16-6 and the second game 19-3. Then on Thursday May, 17th The Dirty Birds Team team kicked off their double header against Eagle Wolf Laser Bears with a walk off win 9-8 and as the wind picked up again we lost our second game 3-10. As the teams continue to compete in the Richland Summer League the games will only get more exciting and fun will ensue so come on out and watch us play. The players appreciate a following. The McKays Dirty Birds are now 4-0 and The Dirty Birds are now 2-2.

First Week Results

The McKays Dirty Birds started off Tuesday, May 8th very well by dispatching our friendly rivals T-Room/Air Van by a handy 19-9 and then backing up that performance with another win over The Swamp Donkeys by a score of 20-9. Then on Wednesday, May 9th The Dirty Birds team kicked off their season with a 35-14 win over the Blue Barracudas and the second game being scorned with very strong winds we took an unfortunate loss to Crazy Moose / The Brick 14-16 yet still had a strong outing. This week being our first week of season play both teams will only get stronger and more competitive. That being the up side we would like everyone to come out and help support all of The Dirty Bird players and watch us win some games!

Richland Summer League Starts this Week

2012 Richland Summer League play starts off this Tuesday, May 8th with McKays Dirty Birds playing at 5:45 and 7:00pm at the Horn Rapids Softball Complex in Richland, WA. Then on Wednesday, May 9th The Dirty Birds softball team go back to back at 5:45 and 7:00pm.

Pounder Invite

Coming up in three weeks is the Pounder Invite hosted by Kip Revis and being played at the Horn Rapids Softball Complex in Richland,WA. Espo's Invite Results

McKays Dirty Birds started out Saturday with the brutal schedule of 11:45am as our first game and 5:45pm for our second game. That's a long wait for a team of drinkers with a softball problem. We were diligent and managed to pull through. We went into Sunday with a 1 and 1 record feeling a bit sluggish and stiff but loosened up quickly dispatching two teams and making it to the championship game. McKays Dirty Birds sore muscles and tight legs from all the extra base running went away quickly as we jumped out to a  nice lead and then the innings kept melting away. Champions! as the last out was registered the McKays Dirty Birds won the game 21-9. Another plaque on the wall of McKays Taphouse. I think they are going to have to clear out more space on their walls. Good job to all the guys that came out and played this weekend I appreciate it.

Espo's Invite

After the Richland Summer League Jamboree the McKays Dirty Birds will be participating in the Espo's Invite which will also be played at the Horn Rapids Softball Complex in Richland, WA. Our first game will be at 11:45am. This will be our last tournament before league play starts which will be the week of May 7th so come out and watch us play! McKays Dirty Birds and The Dirty Birds schedules will be posted once I receive them.

The Jamboree Start Times

The Richland Summer League Jamboree will start for both McKays Dirty Birds and The Dirty Birds Softball teams on Saturday at 8am and 9:15am. Sundays games will start at the same times. The games will be played at Horn Rapids Softball Complex in Richland, WA.

Richland Summer League Jamboree and Espo Invite

On the weekend of April 28th and 29th both McKays Dirty Birds and The Dirty Birds softball teams are participating in the Richland Summer League Jamboree at Horn Rapids Softball Complex in Richland, WA. During that same weekend, April 28th and 29th, the McKays Dirty Birds will be competing in the Espo Invite after the Richland Summer League Jamboree. The Espo Invite is a 3 game guarantee that will cost the team $220.

2nd Place at Spring Fling 5 2012

McKays Dirty Birds played three games on Saturday the 24th and won all their games pretty handily. Sunday the 25th we started our semi final game at 11:30 and took that one easily. On to the finals! The championship game was definitely a challenge, we played a good squad and it showed. We lost to Cup Check 8-4. The weekend was fun all around and topping it off with a second place finish showed the hard work the team put in. For our second tournament of the year we can already give McKays Taphouse a plaque to hang on the wall.

Spring Fling 2012

Spring Fling is coming up next weekend the 24th and 25th of March. It's $240 for the team with a 4 game guarantee and you get 4 Thunder ZN game balls. The games will be played at Lawrence Scott Park fields in Kennewick, WA. Keith and Kyle Knight Have a Birthday Today!

Keith and Kyle Knight turn 29 today! Happy Birthday Keith and Kyle! The Knights are twins who play on the McKays Dirty Birds softball team. Keith plays outfield and Kyle plays second base.

Kip's Big Ball Tournament Results

McKays Dirty Birds went 3-0 in pool play which earned them the #1 seed and a first round bye in bracket play. The semi-final game wasn't as easy as the previous games and Mckays Dirty Birds lost in an elimination game by 3. We were really looking forward to being able to give McKays Taphouse a trophy in our first tournament of the year. Luckily the next tournament is not far away.

A New Dirty Bird

On Friday February 17th at 10:01 a.m. 2012 Mr. and Mrs. Kelvin Ratchford had a baby girl named Kinley who weighed 8 pounds and was 19 1/2 inches long. Congratulations you two! Kelvin plays third base for McKays Dirty Birds.

Kip's Big Ball Tournament

The tournament that was supposed to be this weekend was postponed due to weather. It will resume next weekend at the regular scheduled time. McKays Dirty Birds first game will be at 10am Saturday the 25th.

McKays Dirty Birds

McKays Taphouse and The Dirty Birds softball team have partnered up today for the upcoming 2012 season. McKays Taphouse is located is Richland, WA next to the Albertsons on 1312 Lee Boulevard so go in and say hello to Bill, Dave and their friendly staff and enjoy the delicious food, great atmosphere and not to mention the 50 beers, yes I said 50, they have on tap! McKays Taphouse will have your favorite local college team broadcasting whatever sport is in season on their very large flat screen TV's that are posted all over the place. Never a bad seat in the house.

First Official Tournament of the Year 2012

McKays Taphouse

The Dirty Birds have been talking to McKays Taphouse which is located at 1312 Lee Blvd next to the Albertson's in Richland, WA about a sponsorship and have come to an unofficial agreement. So next Tuesday, fingers crossed, we will be able to say that our team will be called McKays Dirty Birds.
